Dibon Cava Brut Reserve N/V ($10.99) X 2

This sparkling wine (Cava) from Spain has a brilliant appearance with constant release of fine bubbles forming a crown on the surface of the glass. Pale straw yellow in color. Tertiary aromas of fresh baking arise from the second fermentation in the bottle, giving it a character of its own. Smooth and silky, its carbonic release gives it freshness and vivacity, resulting in a long finish with notes of apples and pears.  You simply can't find a better Cava in this price range.

Barboursville Vineyards, Vermentino Reserve 2016 ($21.99)

Native to the maritime growing regions of Liguria, Corsica and Sardinia, Vermentino has adapted splendidly to our warm climate in Piedmont Virginia. A spontaneously ingratiating white wine of self-proclaiming love for seafood and fish in all preparations, Vermentino’s dry but distinctly luscious minerality is complemented by generous palate weight and length, which we capture with fermentation and aging in stainless steel, under continuing lees contact of at least 7 or 8 months.

Spy Valley Pinot Noir Rose 2016 ($18.99)

An inviting mix of floral, plum and cherry aromas. Refreshing and dry, with the richness and structure to complement food.  Pairs perfectly with fish, seafood and shellfish, light salads and quiche. The 2016 Pinot Noir Rose will retain its fresh, crisp personality for around two years, then begin to mellow and become more complex. It should remain attractive up to and possibly beyond 2020.

Arnaldo Caprai Colli Martani Grechetto Grecante 2016 ($19.99)

Grecante is a fresh, crisp wine enjoyed chilled at a temperature of 50 degrees F as an aperitif wine or consumed with seafood, veal, or poultry dishes. “I'd definitely put this wine on a list of favorite value whites from Italy. The 2016 Colli Martani Grechetto Grecante makes your mouth happy as soon as the wine hits the palate. The bouquet is racy and zesty with crisp notes of lime, green papaya and tropical fruit. Despite the liveliness of the mouthfeel, the wine plays even stronger cards in terms of texture and fiber.” -90 Points RP

American Pioneer Wine Growers Manteo Red 2015 ($17.99)

Carefully selected for intensity, weight, and texture, MANTEO is a rich and immediately drinkable red blend of Sonoma County Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah. Each varietal contributes a certain character, which when married together, gives the wine many layers of flavors, texture, and a solid tannin structure, thus making it robust enough for the warrior it’s named after.

Château de Sales, Pomerol 2014 ($41.99)

Located in northwestern Pomerol, just 35 kilometers east of Bordeaux, the 47.5 vineyard hectares of Château de Sales make up the largest estate in the Pomerol appellation and have been owned by the same family for more than 500 years. The average vine age here is more than 30 years old, planted to 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon in fine gravel and sand soils, some clay, and lots of iron oxide. This is classic Pomerol at a stellar price.

Elvio Cogno Dolcetto d'Alba Mandorlo  2015 ($21.99)

Bright ruby red in color with deep violet highlights. The perfume is immediate and intense, uncompromisingly vinous and persistent. It is redolent of grape must which develops sensations of red wildberries when aged. The bouquet is dry and full-bodied, elegant and round, with notes of fruit and a wonderfully almondy finish.  Serve with starters, pasta, soups, salamis, and soft, fresh cheeses. “Brimming with blackberry, boysenberry and violet flavors, this juicy red delivers immediate pleasure. A fine line of tannins and bright acidity makes this a good match with food.” -90 Points WS

Feudi di San Gregorio, Primitivo 2012 ($38.99)

This wine is deep ruby red with violet reflections. A bouquet of complex, powerful, spicy hints of clove and black pepper with woodsy undertones; suggestions of wild cherry and prune. The taste is soft, consistent, with an excellent balance of acidity and tannins; velvety smooth; closes with lingering sensations of cocoa and coffee.  Pair with red meats, richly flavored pastas and risottos, casseroles, stews and a wide range of hard and semi-hard cheeses.

Buglioni, Valpolicella Superiore Classico Ripasso Il Bugiardo 2012 ($27.99)

Intense ruby color. Spacious and elegant scent of ripe fruit and spices, with light hints of vanilla. Persistent taste and warm, enveloping and velvety.  Irresistible with risotto and braised Liar, the Red Meat Grilled, boiled the typical Veronese, the Medium and Long Cheese Seasoning. Open the bottle at least 1 hour before serving.

Au Contraire, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Dutton Ranch 2014 ($39.99)

Highly fragrant with raspberry and plum with a soft earthy, mushroom tone accented by vanilla notes from the French oak barrel aging. The palate is broad and lush with roundness and purity of fruit. The tannins are elegant and firm and the wine shows harmony and balance.

Substance, Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 ($16.99)

"One of the best values I've tasted in a long time, the Cabernet Sauvignon from the team at K Vintners was hand-harvested, natively fermented and aged all in French oak. Smoking good notes of cassis, black currants and hints of plum all emerge from this rich, beautifully textured, layered beauty that has solid tannic grip, a silky, elegant texture and a great finish. It has real elegance and finesse and is a dark fruited, unctuous beauty to drink over the coming 3-4 years." 92 Points - Robert Parker
