Madai has 2.7 hectares undervine dedicated to 50/50 Mencia and Godello. Fermentation and 12 months sur lie aging in French oak. Less than 500 cases produced. Classic varietal aromas of violets and red fruits accompanied by mineral notes, cocoa, spices (nutmeg and cinnamon). The palate is fresh, fruity and silky, which is inviting as a young wine, but structured to provide a good evolution in bottle. The wine region of Bierzo is a small, rural and remote ancient region in the northwestern corner of Castilla y León, touching the eastern border of Galicia. Until recently, it remained unknown to the international wine markets. However, thanks to the wave of investment and innovation that swept many parts of Spain in the late 1990s, the wine region of Bierzo now counts as one of the country’s rising stars, on a par with other wine hotspots, such as Rueda, Penedès, Toro and Jumilla. The Bierzo viticultural area consists of two parts: Bierzo Alto (high Bierzo), a mineral-rich and mountainous terrain where terraced vineyards are sewn into the slopes, and Bierzo Bajo (low Bierzo), a wide and verdant plain.
